Where Did that Blogger Go?
I suspect there will be a lot of drive-by blogging in May. I am torn between needing the therapy of writing and the need to get something else off my plate. For now, I am still writing.
You know what is making me happy at the moment? Mushrooms. No, not the psychedelic kind—the edible kind:
My friend Anna often brings us leftovers from her catering jobs. The other morning, I woke up to a text that she had left us some goodies in the mini fridge on the porch where we keep the eggs. The husband brought the containers in for me, no doubt expecting them to be full of something yummy. I think he was a bit disappointed when he found out they were full of nothing but sautéed mushrooms. He’ll eat mushrooms, but he doesn’t go out of his way for them. I, on the other hand, consider them to be a great delicacy. Anna knows this. She also knows that I won’t bother to put them in or on anything, like eggs or steak; I’ll just eat them straight out of the container (heated up first, but not always).
Happiness.
I am a bit hashed. After my big weekend, I hopped into the car bright and early yesterday morning and headed for Spokane. I don’t want to have to try to get all of DD#2’s stuff home after graduation. I’ve done that with one kid already and it’s not fun. I had with me half a dozen boxes and a big suitcase to leave with DD#2. She had already packed up a couple of plastic totes and another suitcase for me to bring back. We spent the day together, I used my hotel points for a free night at the hotel where I usually stay, and I was on the road again by 6 a.m. this morning to come home in time for a hair appointment at 1:15 p.m.
This is the time of year when a quick trip to Spokane is fun. The weather is stable and tourist season is not yet in full swing. I didn’t have to worry about snow over the passes, nor did I get stuck behind half a dozen slow-moving RVs. I caught up on all my podcast listening. The latest Love to Sew podcast was an interview with David Page Coffin, who was an editor for Threads Magazine for many years and is an expert on sewing men’s shirts. I was fascinated by what he had to say. I was nodding along when he talked about self-publishing a book about sewing shirts because he couldn’t find the information he was looking for. That was the impetus for my books as well.
While in Spokane, I picked up a couple of spools of Aurifil 40wt quilting thread and more canvas for bags, but I didn’t have a lot of time to shop. My Wawak topstitching thread arrived on Friday:
This should cover all of my needs for a while.
I have an appointment to meet with the owners of the organic market tomorrow afternoon to discuss the grocery bags. We’ll see what happens! I need to get another batch of bags through the machines as the first two batches have sold out except for one bag I kept to use as a sample. And I’d really like to make myself a Redwood Tote to use. My Fremont Tote needs a break. I am not sure how much sewing there will be this month beyond grocery bags.
