Spooky
I needed a palate cleanser after that Remy Raglan, so I am making another store sample. Gail Yellen has a line of patterns that really show off the capabilities of the Bernina sergers. They also use decorative threads and are just plain fun to make. I chose a table runner pattern and I am making it out of Halloween fabrics. The center of the runner is the main feature with blocks that are flatlocked together with 12wt thread. I’m using Accent, which is a Wonderfil rayon thread in slightly variegated colors:
After sewing the seams, I’m weaving 1/4" black ribbon through the threads:
Everything looks like a mess right now but the edges will get cleaned up in the next step.

I walked around the property yesterday morning to survey the storm damage. We’ve had worse, but this one made an impressive mess.
This is typical for this kind of tree. (I can’t remember what these are.) They shear off 10-12 feet up rather than coming up by the roots. This whole section of our property used to be fairly thick with trees. We lost dozens in the March 2020 windstorm. The husband took out more as part of his cleanup and fire prevention efforts.
A tree behind the rental house was the biggest casualty. Fortunately, the husband locked the pigs in the Piggy Palace before the storm.
The tree was rotten at the base. No surprise it came down. He cut it up yesterday morning and fixed the fence so he could let the pigs out into the pasture again.
We’re not lacking for firewood.
The garden may not like this weather—it was 40F when I woke up this morning—but I am appreciating a cooler and wetter July. We’ve had years when the blast furnace went on as early as the middle of June with no precipitation in sight until September.
