No Sewing During National Sewing Month

I had coffee with The Other Janet yesterday morning so we could catch up on what has been happening. She showed me photos of her reorganized sewing room—at least one of us is sewing. 😩

[The irony that it is National Sewing Month is not lost on me, believe me. If I had chosen the month for sewing, it would have been January or February. In my world, September is National Canning Month.]

And it’s not like I am sitting around doing nothing. I am knitting a bit in the evenings again, which I haven’t done in a long while. The hat is coming along nicely:

This is the upper part of the hat; I am going to pick up and work the ribbing later. I would like to make a quieter version, too, but I do not have very much muddy earth tone yarn in my yarn stash. Shocking, I know.

Otherwise, it has been a week of paperwork, of cleaning, of cooking, and not much else. Cabbage was on sale this week at the grocery store, so I have a crock of sauerkraut fermenting on the kitchen counter. I had no other good place to put it where I wouldn’t forget about it. I also need to bring in another wagon load of tomatoes today.

This will pass. Canning season will end, the weather will keep me indoors, and I will have time to sew again.

My friend Robert asked me if the deck at the rental house was done, because he hadn’t seen pictures of it on the blog. He and Deana stayed in the house over the summer when the deck consisted of large sheets of plywood over the joists. I took some photos for him and will share them here:

We chose a neutral color of the recycled decking material because at some point, we are going to re-side the house and put on a new metal roof. I like the “beige with a bit a green” combination. It blends nicely with the surroundings.
