I Like to Paint

We had a work day at church yesterday. I do not like to wash windows, so I avoided that task like the plague. A couple of walls in the upstairs bathrooms needed to be painted. I got that job, which suited me just fine. I like discrete projects that allow me to work by myself and painting is something I know how to do.

Elaine washed windows. Others mopped, cleaned the fluorescent light fixtures, and did some landscaping work. I think we accomplished quite a bit. Two of the women prepared breakfast and lunch for us, so we also ate very well. Food always accompanies Mennonite activities, even the mundane ones.

After I finished painting, I did some work downstairs in my sewing classroom area. The basement hasn’t been used in a while and I wanted to spruce it up a bit.

On Friday, while I was waiting for salsa to process, I whipped up a Burda 6329 top.

This is a pleat-front raglan knit top pattern. It is one of my favorites and I would like to make a few more. I pulled a fabric out of my stash that feels like a rayon spandex, although it might have some polyester in it. I am pretty sure it came from the Walmart remnant rack. I got as far as putting the top together and cutting the neckband on Friday but had to stop there.

Against my better judgment—truly, I know this—I tried to attach the neckband after I got home yesterday. I was too tired and it came out a bit wonky. I thought I would leave it and deal with the neckband this morning, but I decided to take it out and re-clip it while the husband and I watched heavy equipment repair videos after dinner.

I should be able to find five minutes before leaving for church this morning to attach it again, correctly this time. I’ll hem the bottom and sleeves this afternoon.

I’ve also made this top in double-brushed polyester, which is one of the fabrics that I think Joanns managed to do really well. I still have a few pieces in the stash that may get used with this pattern, including one screamingly loud cheetah print in bright green and hot pink. 🤪 I bought a lot of their DBP when they were going out of business.
